Our Story

TOPS Well Services formed in January 2012 and started its base of operations in Williston, ND. TOPS stands for Total Oilfield Pumping Solutions.

We provide hydraulic fracturing and miscellaneous pumping services to customers from Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico. We navigate the toughest terrain and winter conditions with ease.

Our company is run by a tight-knit team of proven professionals who know this industry from the bottom to the top and have their hands in everything. We have challenged ourselves to find the resources and get the job done no matter what from the very beginning, at one point doubling the size of our company and pumping capabilities virtually overnight.

We will continue to grow and expand, increasing our fleets and horsepower to meet the demands of our customers, no matter what they might be.

All great things begin and end with leadership and instilling company values in every member of the team.

Even our hands have far more experience than those working for the average company. They will run TOPS tomorrow, so we do everything we can to attract and retain the best of the best. Their loyalty keeps them with us, spreading our reputation worldwide.

Here are the men who currently keep this leadership philosophy alive. Together, they have over 109 years in Oil & Gas.

Brian Uhlmer – CEO

Mr. Uhlmer brings 24 years of Oil & Gas experience to his role as CEO of TOPS. His resume includes experience in sales, finance, operations, technology, engineering, and executive leadership.

Entering the workforce as an engineer after receiving his chemical engineering degree from the University of Florida, Brian moved up rapidly in sales and leadership. After completing his MBA at the University of Texas, he spent 8 years working on Wall Street as an oil service analyst and director of energy research.

He was then recruited to run strategy, accounting, finance, technology, and supply chain while helping build the fastest-growing frac company in history, where he was promoted up to CTO and then CFO in his pursuit of organizational goals.

Brian Uhlmer is a culture- and people-first leader who has driven efficiencies and cost savings in every organization he has been involved in.

Hugo Reyes – Director of U.S. Operations

Mr. Reyes has over 20 years in the Oil & Gas industry and a passion that is second to none.

From North Dakota to West Texas, Hugo has worked his way up from equipment operator to running all operations and maintenance for TOPS. He has ran simulfrac and dual fuel operations and is experienced with many styles and equipment configurations.

Hugo´s leadership combined with a hands-on operational approach creates a well-rounded environment and safe, efficient, economical day-to-day operations to make him one of the best mentors in the oilfield today.

Ron Hudson - Director of Engineering & Sales

Mr. Hudson brings another 20+ years of Oil & Gas experience to his own role at TOPS. Ron has worked for Halliburton and Calfrac prior to joining TOPS.

He is known throughout the Rockies as a thought-leader in frac design and his knowledge caught the eye of CNPC leading him to serve a stint in China at the very onset of fracing in the country.

Our goals are to…

  1. Operate in an accident-free manner relative to personnel health, operational safety, and environmental impact.
  2. Be a leader in the hydraulic fracturing industry.

To achieve these goals TOPS Well Services must have excellent HSE performance by its personnel and contractors and strong support from its customers.

How we achieve them…

To achieve this TOPS Well Services will implement an HSE Management System that has the following components:

  • Health, Safety & Environment Elements, Expectations & Applications
  • HSE Management Policies
  • Key HSE Management System Processes
  • HSE Guidelines, Procedures, References and Forms

The HSE Expectations describe goals, objectives, and standards of the HSE Management System and the expected commitment of TOPS Well Services personnel in achieving company goals.

All Executives, Managers, and Supervisors must communicate and explain the HSE Expectations to their teams and are accountable for delivery of HSE performance.

The HSE Management Policies, Key HSE Management System (HSEMS) Processes and Guidelines, Procedures, References and Forms support the HSE Expectations. These components define the HSE operating parameters that ensure the operational risks are being managed to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).

What is the outcome?

Effective utilization of the HSE Management System (HSEMS) will result in minimal safety and environmental incidents.

This will contribute to the internal strength and efficiency of the company, thereby enhancing its industry reputation and identifying it as a preferred hydraulic fracturing company.

What does the HSE Management System provide?

The HSE Management System provides a set of Expectations based on the fifteen elements described in the company’s HSE Policy.

These Expectations focus managers on HSE needs, activities, and resources that are essential for consistent delivery of high HSE performance.

The Expectations are supported by HSE System components. These components are the tools used to fulfill the Expectations.

Commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental Performance

Everybody who works on a TOPS Well Services project is responsible for working together to achieve the HSE objectives. HSE performance and the health and safety of personnel that work for us are critical to our success.

TOPS Well Services´ goals are to operate accident-free, be an industry leader, and deliver efficient and value-added hydraulic fracturing services.

In all activities and operations, the company will:

  • Comply fully with all legal requirements and meet or exceed these requirements wherever we operate in the world.
  • Provide a secure working environment by protecting personnel, equipment, and operations against risk of injury, loss or damage from criminal or hostile acts.
  • Ensure that all employees, contractors and others are informed, trained, engaged in, and committed to the HSE improvement process.
  • The company recognizes that safe operations depend not only on technically sound equipment but also on competent people and an active HSE culture, and that no activity is so important or routine that it cannot be done safely.
  • Regularly provide assurance that the processes in place are working effectively through audits and reviews. While all TOPS personnel and contractors are responsible for HSE performance, managers and supervisors are accountable for understanding and managing HSE risks.
  • Fully participate in hazard identification and risk assessments, audits, and reporting of HSE results.
  • Maintain both internal and public confidence in the integrity of the company’s operations.
  • The performance will be openly reported and the company will consult with outside specialists to improve the understanding of HSE issues associated with its operations.
  • Expect that all parties working on the behalf of the company recognize that they can have an impact on operations and company reputation, and thereby must operate to Tops Well Services standards.
